small and medium-sized cities have stepped into the "cinema era", which has changed the share of the domestic movie industry. the four first-tier cities in north, shanghai, guangzhou and shenzhen account for 25.8% of the national box office, down from 32.8% in 2008. economic development has made "small town youth" who have money and leisure happy to buy tickets to watch movies, and many movies have also made second-and third-tier cities the focus of early marketing. however, not every audience willing to buy tickets to enter the cinema is a qualified movie audience. movies have artistic attributes. qualified movie audiences need to have certain cultural appreciation ability, or to enhance this ability by watching movies. however, in order to pursue short-term box office and cater to the taste of small-city moviegoers who have just come into contact with "cinema culture", some film and television producers only pursue sensory effects or star effects when making films, ignoring the leading role of films in social values. although some films whose artistry has been questioned have made a lot of money at the box office, in the long run, films lacking artistry and cultural details are difficult to have long-term vitality. although the box office is not the only criterion for evaluating the quality of a movie, the correlation between the box office and the quality of a movie is even greater in a market with high cultural quality of viewers. this is also the reason why domestic films failed miserably at the overseas box office. last year, domestic films earned a total of only 1.4 billion yuan at the overseas box office, which is only equivalent to the total amount of money earned by two overseas films in china.
